Lay me down in peace, good God. Release me from both the wonder and the worries I carried today, and shelter my sleep with your love. Refresh all who are weary. Comfort all who wait and weep. Cover this world with the wide wings of your mercy. Amen.
1 Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
2 Beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth, like the heights of Zaphon[b] is Mount Zion, the city of the Great King. 3 God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress.
4 When the kings joined forces, when they advanced together, 5 they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror. 6 Trembling seized them there, pain like that of a woman in labor. 7 You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish shattered by an east wind.
8 As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the Lord Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever.[c]
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love. 10 Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness. 11 Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments.
12 Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers, 13 consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best.
Lay me down in peace, good God. Release me from both the wonder and the worries I carried today, and shelter my sleep with your love. Refresh all who are weary. Comfort all who wait and weep. Cover this world with the wide wings of your mercy. Amen.
37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”[a]39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.
Lay me down in peace, good God. Release me from both the wonder and the worries I carried today, and shelter my sleep with your love. Refresh all who are weary. Comfort all who wait and weep. Cover this world with the wide wings of your mercy. Amen.
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Lay me down in peace, good God. Release me from both the wonder and the worries I carried today, and shelter my sleep with your love. Refresh all who are weary. Comfort all who wait and weep. Cover this world with the wide wings of your mercy. Amen.
