HIGH FIVE! (谢谢您抽出时间)

Kevin, 1 Samuel 2:18-26 is a powerful passage because it presents a sharp contrast between Samuel’s growing faithfulness and the growing corruption of Eli’s sons, Hophni and Phinehas. The passage shows that God notices the difference between those who honor Him and those who merely hold a religious position. [biblemaximum.com], [goodwaylibrary.com]
1. Core Significance
1. Samuel served faithfully while still young (vv. 18-19)
Samuel ministered before the Lord wearing a linen ephod, a garment associated with priestly service. Even as a child, he was devoted to God’s work.
Significance: God does not wait for adulthood to begin using a person. Faithfulness starts where you are.
2. Hannah continued to honor her commitment (vv. 19-21)
Every year Hannah brought Samuel a robe and visited him at Shiloh. God then blessed Hannah with additional children.
Significance: God remembers sacrificial obedience. Hannah gave her first son to God, and God continued to bless her family. [biblemaximum.com]
3. Eli’s sons abused their position (vv. 22-25)
Hophni and Phinehas exploited their priestly office and committed immorality. Although Eli rebuked them, they refused to repent.
Significance: Religious status does not excuse sin. God judges leaders more severely when they misuse their authority. [enduringword.com], [goodwaylibrary.com]
4. Samuel kept growing (v. 26)
The chapter ends by saying:
“And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the Lord, and also with men.”
This is remarkably similar to what is later said about Jesus in Luke 2:52.
Significance: True spiritual maturity produces favor with both God and people.
2. Major Lessons
1. God values character over position.
Eli’s sons held the title of priests, yet Samuel had God’s favor.
2. Consistent faithfulness matters.
Samuel was not performing miracles yet. He was simply serving faithfully every day.
3. Parents influence generations.
Hannah’s devotion helped shape Samuel into one of Israel’s greatest leaders.
4. Sin ignored becomes sin entrenched.
Eli rebuked his sons, but he failed to stop them. Their hearts became hardened.
5. Growth is often gradual.
Samuel’s story reminds us that spiritual growth usually happens little by little rather than all at once.
3. Revelation 12 Significance Table
| Passage Element | Spiritual Meaning | Revelation 12 Connection |
|---|---|---|
| Samuel serving God as a child | Faithful remnant | God’s people remain faithful despite corruption around them |
| Hannah’s yearly robe | Ongoing care and discipleship | The woman nourishes what belongs to God |
| Eli’s wicked sons | Corrupt spiritual opposition | Represents those who claim God’s name but oppose His purposes |
| Refusal to repent | Hardened rebellion | Similar to those who resist God’s warnings |
| Samuel growing in favor | God’s chosen servant being prepared | God raises up faithful leaders to accomplish His plan |
| Contrast between Samuel and Hophni/Phinehas | Separation of righteous and wicked | A recurring theme throughout Scripture and Revelation |
4. What This Means for You, Kevin
One thing that stands out for me is verse 26.
You often talk about:
- reading Scripture every morning,
- serving at church,
- leading Toastmasters,
- helping your mother,
- working your shifts faithfully,
- taking small daily steps toward your goals.
Samuel’s growth was not dramatic. It was daily faithfulness.
The passage teaches that while others may chase position, recognition, or shortcuts, God is watching the person who simply keeps showing up and serving. Samuel wasn’t famous yet. He was just faithfully doing today’s assignment.
Sometimes God’s greatest work in us happens while we are quietly growing.

| Source | Contribution |

| 1 Samuel 2:18-26 | Primary passage examined |
| Luke 2:52 | Parallel to Samuel’s growth in favor with God and people |

Key Takeaway: God is less impressed by a title than by faithfulness. While Eli’s sons held positions of authority, Samuel simply served God day after day, and God raised him up in His perfect time.

INTERESTING… very interesting… TODAY IS MY DAY OFF FROM HCW… I really need the time… I have to understand this passage, pay my car bill, do some laundry, do some dishes, go2 the GYM, mail those Martha Stewart Magazines, get new tires for my Mom’s car, go2 church council… YES… I am missing my ROTARY MEETING. I HAVE CHOCOLATE TO HAND OUT!

KEVIN… LOOK AT THAT PHOTO.
YOU WORK AT HERSHEY CHOCOLATE WORLD, YOU’RE MISSING A ROTARY MEETING, AND YOU HAVE A BAG OF REESE’S STRAWBERRY PB&J READY TO HAND OUT.
I think 1 Samuel 2:18-26 speaks directly into a day like today.
Samuel wasn’t doing anything spectacular in this passage.
He wasn’t slaying giants. He wasn’t leading armies. He wasn’t giving famous sermons.
He was simply doing the next faithful thing.
Meanwhile, what do you have today?
✅ Understand the passage
✅ Pay the car bill
✅ Do laundry
✅ Do dishes
✅ Go to the gym
✅ Mail the Martha Stewart magazines
✅ Get new tires for Mom’s car
✅ Attend church council
✅ Hand out chocolate
Honestly? That sounds a lot like Samuel’s season.
Not glamorous. Not headline-worthy.
Just faithful.
The world celebrates dramatic moments. God often celebrates ordinary obedience.
While Eli’s sons were chasing pleasure and abusing their positions, Samuel was growing.
While everyone else noticed the corruption, God noticed the kid faithfully serving.
Verse 26 says:
“And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the Lord, and also with men.”
Notice the word:
GREW.
Not exploded. Not arrived. Not became famous overnight.
He grew.
Little by little.
Just like:
- your devotional life,
- your gym workouts,
- your Toastmasters leadership,
- your Rotary service,
- your goal of building the next chapter of your life.
Growth often looks boring in the moment.
Then one day everyone realizes what God was building all along.
And by the way…
THOSE MAGAZINES?
A few weeks ago they were sitting in a basement.
Today they’re sold.
THAT is 1 Samuel 2 thinking.
Faithful with small things. One step at a time. One package at a time. One bill paid at a time. One workout at a time. One prayer at a time.
So here’s the challenge for today:
Don’t worry about accomplishing everything. Just do the next faithful thing.
Then the next.
Then the next.
And tonight, when church council is over and the laundry is done and the magazines are mailed and the chocolate has been distributed…
you can look back and say:
“Today, I grew.”
That is the spirit of Samuel in 1 Samuel 2:18-26.
NOW GO BE FAITHFUL, KEVIN.
And save a Reese’s Strawberry PB&J for somebody at Rotary… because missing a meeting while carrying chocolate may be the greatest Rotary temptation known to mankind. 🍫😄

THANKS BE TO GOD.
My Doctor says you can eat one REESE’S
