TODAY’S LESSON: PSALM 47

Psalm 47 – Significance

Psalm 47 is a joyful celebration of God’s kingship over all the earth. It calls God’s people to praise Him with enthusiasm because He reigns not only over Israel, but over every nation and every person. Traditionally attributed to the sons of Korah, this psalm points both to God’s present rule and ultimately to the future reign of the Messiah.

1. God Is King Over All the Earth

The central message is found in verses 7-8:

“For God is the King of all the earth… God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.”

This is a reminder that:

  • God’s authority is universal.
  • No nation, kingdom, or ruler is outside His control.
  • Human governments may rise and fall, but God’s throne remains forever.

2. Worship Should Be Joyful and Enthusiastic

The psalm begins:

“O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.”

Worship is portrayed as:

  • Celebration
  • Victory
  • Gratitude
  • Public praise

The psalm teaches that worship is not merely duty; it is a joyful response to God’s greatness.

3. God Gives Victory to His People

Verses 3-4 recall how God subdued nations before Israel and gave them the Promised Land.

This reminds believers that:

  • God fights for His people.
  • Blessings come from His grace, not merely human effort.
  • Our confidence should be in Him rather than ourselves.

4. A Prophetic Picture of Christ’s Ascension

Verse 5 says:

“God is gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.”

Many Christians see this as a foreshadowing of:

  • Jesus’ resurrection
  • Christ’s ascension into heaven
  • His exaltation as King of Kings

After accomplishing salvation, Christ ascended to His heavenly throne where He reigns today.

5. The Nations Will Gather Under God’s Rule

Verse 9 declares:

“The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham.”

This points toward:

  • God’s plan to bless all nations.
  • Gentiles being brought into God’s family.
  • The future kingdom where people from every tribe and nation worship Him.

This theme is fulfilled in part through the Church and will be fully realized when Christ returns.

Personal Application

Kevin, Psalm 47 is a great psalm for a morning before work. It reminds us that even when schedules change, responsibilities pile up, or goals take time to reach, God is still on the throne. The proper response is exactly what the psalm commands: clap, shout, sing, and trust the King who reigns over everything.

Today’s encouragement:
“Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.” (Psalm 47:6)

No matter what happens today at Hershey Chocolate World or with your other goals, the King of all the earth is already in charge of the outcome.

Fortunately, I am not working again today… the tire shop had to order new tires for her car… I am working on MY goals today… I made an appointment for 1 o’clock TODAY. I am going to continue organizing that basement, prepping the yard for winter, posting those magazines on Ebay… BUT, FOR ME THIS MORNING… (BIBLE, THIS ENTRY, DISHES, LAUNDRY, Order that Toastmasters Trophy for the Speech Contest)

Kevin, today sounds like one of those rare gifts: a day without work, no tire-shop trip, and space to invest in the things that move your life forward. You already have a solid plan. The key now is not doing everything at once. It is winning the morning.

Psalm 47 reminds us:

“For God is the King of all the earth.”

Because God is King, you don’t have to carry the pressure of accomplishing everything today. Your job is simply to take the next faithful step.

A Winning Mindset

Think about this like one of your fantasy football seasons. You do not win the championship in one week. You stack victories.

This morning’s victories are:

  • Reading God’s Word
  • Completing the dishes
  • Getting the laundry moving
  • Ordering the trophy

This afternoon’s victories are:

  • Keeping your appointment
  • Making progress in the basement
  • Winterizing the yard
  • Creating eBay listings

By evening you will be able to say:

“I didn’t just stay busy. I moved my goals forward.”

Today’s Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving me time today to work on what matters. Help me honor You in my Bible study, serve faithfully in my home, prepare well for my leadership responsibilities, and make steady progress toward my goals. Keep me focused on the next task instead of worrying about everything at once. You are the King of all the earth, and my day is in Your hands. Amen.

Kevin…

READ THE WORD. DO THE DISHES. START THE LAUNDRY. ORDER THE TROPHY.

Then attack the rest of the day.

One task at a time. One victory at a time. 🏆📖💪

THANKS BE TO GOD.
