TODAY’S LESSON: THANKS BE TO GOD!

HIGH FIVE! (yeah)

John 7:14-18 is significant because it reveals the divine authority of Jesus’ teaching, the source of true spiritual understanding, and the test for recognizing truth.

Passage Summary

Jesus enters the temple during the Feast of Tabernacles and begins teaching. The Jewish leaders are amazed because He has not received formal rabbinical training. Jesus explains that His teaching comes from God, not from Himself. He then states that those who genuinely desire to do God’s will can recognize whether His message is from God. Finally, He contrasts self-seeking teachers with those who seek God’s glory.

1. Jesus’ Authority Comes from God

“My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.” (v.16)

The religious leaders evaluated authority based on education and credentials. Jesus declared that His authority came directly from the Father.

Significance

  • Jesus was not presenting human opinions.
  • His message carried divine authority.
  • This is a direct claim that He was God’s sent Messiah.

Application: Truth is not determined by human credentials alone but by whether it aligns with God’s revelation.

2. Obedience Opens the Door to Understanding

“If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine…” (v.17)

Jesus teaches a powerful spiritual principle:

Willingness to obey precedes full understanding.

Many people want proof before obedience. Jesus says that a heart willing to follow God will recognize God’s truth when it hears it.

Significance

  • Spiritual blindness is often a heart issue, not merely an intellectual issue.
  • God’s truth becomes clearer as a person submits to His will.
  • Faith and obedience work together.

3. Jesus Gives a Test for Discernment

“He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory…” (v.18)

Jesus provides a way to evaluate spiritual leaders.

False Teachers

  • Seek personal glory.
  • Promote themselves.
  • Desire recognition and status.

True Teachers

  • Point people to God.
  • Seek God’s glory.
  • Are committed to truth rather than self-promotion.

Significance

This principle remains valuable today when evaluating leaders, teachers, churches, and even ourselves.

4. Jesus Demonstrates Perfect Humility

Although He is God in the flesh, Jesus consistently directs glory to the Father.

Significance

  • Reveals the unity between the Father and the Son.
  • Models servant leadership.
  • Shows how believers should approach ministry and influence.

Core Takeaways

  1. Jesus’ teaching carries divine authority because it comes from the Father.
  2. A willing and obedient heart is essential for recognizing God’s truth.
  3. Spiritual discernment involves examining motives and whose glory is being sought.
  4. Jesus models perfect humility by seeking the Father’s glory rather than His own.
  5. Truth is recognized not merely through intellect but through a heart surrendered to God’s will.

YOU KNOW… I found my mom a great senior center to go to… I was so thrilled to hear that she enjoyed her first day… SHE WILL BE OK… (yeah) BTW – I AM UNDEFEATED IN ERFFL & (she taught me a how to live a life with great work ethic) LET’S GO2 WORK.

Kevin… that is AWESOME. 🎉

Take a step back and look at what just happened:

✅ You found your mom a senior center.
✅ She went.
✅ She enjoyed her first day.
✅ She is building connections and support outside of just relying on you.

That’s a huge win.

You’ve carried a lot of responsibility helping your mom while also working, serving in Rotary, leading Toastmasters, pursuing career opportunities, and trying to build your own future. Hearing that she enjoyed herself is not just good news for her. It is reassurance for you.

“She will be OK.”

And what a gift that she gave you long before this moment:

She taught you how to live a life with a great work ethic.

You see that every day:

  • Nearly 9 years of perfect attendance.
  • Early morning workouts.
  • Scripture before the day begins.
  • Showing up for Rotary service projects.
  • Persisting through job applications and leadership responsibilities.

That didn’t happen by accident. Someone planted those seeds.

And then we have this:

🏆 Undefeated in ERFFL.

Listen, if you’re going to be undefeated, helping your mom thrive, reading Scripture, and preparing for bigger opportunities all at the same time… that’s a pretty solid season of life.

John 7:17 says:

“If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine…”

You’re not just looking for God’s will, Kevin. You’re putting one foot in front of the other and doing the next right thing. Helping your mom find community is one of those things.

So today:

  • Be grateful.
  • Be encouraged.
  • Be confident.
  • Keep showing up.

Your mom is finding her footing.

Your fantasy team is undefeated.

Your work ethic is honoring the lesson she taught you.

Now as you said…

LET’S GO 2 WORK. 🔥💪

One day. One shift. One opportunity. One act of service at a time.

You’ve got this.

THANKS BE TO GOD.
