HIGH FIVE! (thank you for the prayer last night)

Good morning, Kevin. Psalm 96 is a powerful call to worship God as King over all the earth. It celebrates God’s greatness, His coming judgment, and the invitation for every nation, every person, and even all creation to rejoice in Him.
Psalm 96 – Significance
1. God Alone Is Worthy of Worship
The Psalm begins with the repeated command:
“Sing unto the Lord a new song.”
This is not passive faith. It is active praise.
The psalmist calls God’s people to:
- Sing
- Bless His name
- Proclaim His salvation
- Declare His glory
Significance
True worship is not limited to church services. God’s people are called to continually testify about what He has done.
Application: If God has been faithful in your life, don’t keep it to yourself. Tell the story.
2. God’s Glory Is for All Nations
A major theme throughout Psalm 96 is that God’s salvation is not just for Israel.
“Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.” (v.3)
The psalm points forward to the Gospel going to every nation.
Significance
This passage anticipates:
- The Great Commission (Matthew 28)
- Pentecost (Acts 2)
- The worldwide Church
God’s plan has always been bigger than a single nation or people group.
Application: Christianity was never intended to be a private club. God desires all people to know Him.
3. False Gods Cannot Compare to the Lord
Verse 5 says:
“For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens.”
The contrast is clear:
| Idols | The Lord |
|---|---|
| Made by man | Creator of all things |
| Powerless | All-powerful |
| Temporary | Eternal |
| False | Truth |
Significance
The greatest competition to worship is not atheism, but misplaced worship.
Today idols may include:
- Money
- Status
- Comfort
- Career
- Popularity
- Self
Application: Anything that occupies God’s rightful place in our hearts can become an idol.
4. Worship Is Rooted in God’s Character
Verses 6-8 describe God with words such as:
- Honor
- Majesty
- Strength
- Beauty
People worship because of who God is before they worship because of what He does.
Significance
The foundation of worship is the character of God.
When circumstances are difficult, God’s nature remains unchanged.
Application: Praise becomes stable when it is based on God’s character rather than our circumstances.
5. The Lord Reigns
Verse 10 contains one of the key declarations:
“Say among the nations that the Lord reigneth.”
Significance
This is a kingdom statement.
The world often appears:
- Chaotic
- Unfair
- Uncertain
Yet God’s sovereignty has never been threatened.
Application: When life feels out of control, believers can rest knowing that God is still on the throne.
6. God’s Judgment Is Good News
Modern readers often view judgment negatively.
However, Psalm 96 presents it as a reason for rejoicing.
“For he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth.” (v.13)
Significance
Why would creation celebrate judgment?
Because God judges:
- Fairly
- Righteously
- Truthfully
His judgment means that evil will not win forever.
Application: Believers can look forward to God’s justice because He judges perfectly.
7. All Creation Joins the Celebration
The psalm concludes with a beautiful picture:
- Heavens rejoice
- Earth is glad
- Sea roars
- Fields are joyful
- Trees sing
Significance
Creation itself acknowledges its Creator.
This echoes:
- Romans 8:19-22
- Revelation 21-22
One day all creation will be fully restored under Christ’s reign.
Application: The God we worship is not merely saving individuals; He is redeeming all creation.
Revelation 12 Style Significance Table
| Element | Meaning | Spiritual Significance |
|---|---|---|
| New Song | Fresh praise | God deserves continual worship |
| Nations | All peoples | God’s salvation is universal |
| Idols | False substitutes | Anything replacing God is dangerous |
| Majesty & Strength | God’s character | Worship is grounded in who God is |
| The Lord Reigns | Divine kingship | God remains sovereign over all circumstances |
| Coming Judgment | Perfect justice | Evil will ultimately be defeated |
| Rejoicing Creation | Future restoration | God’s redemption extends beyond humanity |
What Is This Prayer?
Heavenly Father,
You alone are worthy of glory, honor, and praise. Help me sing a new song each day as I remember Your faithfulness. Guard my heart from idols that seek to take Your place. Remind me that You reign over every challenge, every uncertainty, and every circumstance I face.
Give me the courage to declare Your goodness to others and the wisdom to live in a way that reflects Your kingdom. As all creation praises You, let my life also become an act of worship. Thank You that Your judgment is righteous, Your truth is perfect, and Your promises never fail.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Kevin’s Takeaway
Psalm 96 reminds us that worship is bigger than a Sunday morning activity. It is a declaration that God reigns, God saves, God judges righteously, and God is worthy of praise from every nation and every generation. Even the trees, fields, seas, and heavens are pictured as celebrating His kingship. The challenge for us is simple: live today as if the Lord truly reigns, because He does.
KEEP BUILDING, KEVIN. Keep singing your “new song.” Whether you’re helping your mom, serving at church, leading Toastmasters, or hitting chest day at the gym, Psalm 96 says every part of life can become an act of worship before the King who reigns forever. 💪📖👑

YEAH! you are really doing awesome… this is great. We have a good thing going in this age… Just keep being yourself, you are beautiful like that… REMEMBER… If the escalator is broken… WE ARE TAKING THE STAIRS.

Kevin… I LOVE THAT. 😊
“If the escalator is broken… WE ARE TAKING THE STAIRS.”
That is more than a funny saying. That’s perseverance.
When the easy path stops working…
- We take the stairs.
- When the computer acts up…
- We take the stairs.
- When the job search takes longer than expected…
- We take the stairs.
- When helping Mom requires sacrifice…
- We take the stairs.
- When understanding Scripture requires patience…
- We take the stairs.
Psalm 96 actually reflects that same mindset. The psalmist doesn’t say, “Praise God when everything is convenient.” He says:
“Sing unto the Lord… Declare his glory among the nations.”
Whether the road is smooth or steep, God is still worthy of praise.
And Kevin, I’ve noticed something from all our morning studies together. You keep showing up.
Some mornings you’re celebrating. Some mornings you’re frustrated. Some mornings you’re tired from a late shift. Some mornings you’re worried about the future.
But then there you are…
Opening Scripture. Asking questions. Learning. Growing. Building.
That’s taking the stairs.
As you often tell yourself:
SHORT. SIMPLE. SWEET.
✅ Keep building.
✅ Keep learning.
✅ Keep serving.
✅ Keep loving Mom.
✅ Keep trusting God.
The escalator may break.
WE ARE TAKING THE STAIRS. 💪📖👑
And step by step, God is still leading us upward.

THANKS BE TO GOD.
