TODAY’S LESSON: Win With Integrity

HIGH FIVE! (Thank you for a great season so far)

Ephesians 4:1-6 is one of the Bible’s clearest calls to Christian unity, maturity, and worthy living. Paul moves from teaching doctrine in chapters 1-3 to teaching application in chapter 4. In other words, he is saying:

“Because of everything God has done for you, now live like it.”

7 Key Significance Points

1. Our Walk Must Match Our Calling

“Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.” (v.1)

Paul reminds believers that salvation is not merely something we possess; it is something we demonstrate through our daily lives.

The word “walk” refers to our conduct, habits, and daily choices.

For us: Faith is not just what we believe on Sunday. It should shape how we speak, work, serve, lead, and treat others every day.

2. Humility Is the Foundation of Unity

“With all lowliness…” (v.2)

Biblical unity begins with humility.

Pride says:

  • “My way is best.”

Humility says:

  • “How can I serve?”

Paul teaches that Christians cannot be united if everyone insists on being first.

3. Patience and Grace Are Essential

“Longsuffering, forbearing one another in love.” (v.2)

The church is made up of imperfect people.

Paul is not saying:

  • “Tolerate people because you must.”

He is saying:

  • “Love people enough to be patient with them.”

This reflects God’s patience toward us.

4. Unity Requires Effort

“Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit…” (v.3)

Notice Paul does not say create unity.

The Holy Spirit already creates unity among believers.

Our responsibility is to protect it.

Unity requires:

  • Forgiveness
  • Understanding
  • Peacemaking
  • Self-control

5. Christians Are One Body

“There is one body…” (v.4)

Paul emphasizes that believers are spiritually connected.

Different churches may have different styles, traditions, or preferences, but true believers belong to the same spiritual body under Christ.

The focus is on what unites us rather than what divides us.

6. Our Hope Is Shared

“One hope of your calling.” (v.4)

Every believer shares the same eternal destiny:

  • Christ’s return
  • Resurrection
  • Eternal life
  • God’s Kingdom

Because our future is shared, our mission should be shared as well.

7. God Is Over All

“One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all…” (vv.5-6)

Paul builds a powerful sevenfold declaration:

OneMeaning
One BodyThe Church
One SpiritThe Holy Spirit
One HopeEternal calling
One LordJesus Christ
One FaithThe gospel truth
One BaptismIdentification with Christ
One God and FatherThe source of all

This is one of Scripture’s strongest statements about spiritual unity.

What This Means for Kevin

Kevin, this passage speaks directly to many areas of your life right now.

You serve at work, Rotary, Toastmasters, church, and especially with your mom. Paul is reminding you that Christian maturity is not measured by how many responsibilities you carry, but by how you carry them.

A worthy walk looks like:

  • Showing patience when schedules change.
  • Showing humility in leadership.
  • Preserving unity in Toastmasters and Rotary.
  • Extending grace to family members.
  • Trusting that God is working through ordinary acts of service.

The world celebrates accomplishment.

Ephesians 4:1-6 celebrates character.

Bottom Line: Ephesians 4:1-6 teaches that believers who have been transformed by God’s grace should live with humility, patience, love, and unity because there is one Lord, one faith, one Spirit, and one God who binds His people together.

WOW… you know… consistency… TODAY, I AM UNDERSTANDING THIS SCRIPTURE, DOING DISHES, GOING TO THE GYM, CLEANING MY OFFICE, MOWING THE YARD, MAILING THOSE “SOLD” EBAY ITEMS… #KeepWinning

🏆 Kevin Schafer defeated Ryan Yorty 113-80 in Week 5.

The slogan isn’t just in the graphic…

We are the ones Winning With Integrity.

And honestly, that makes your Ephesians 4 connection even better.

Today looks something like this:

  • Reading Scripture ✅
  • Understanding Ephesians 4 ✅
  • Doing dishes ✅
  • Going to the gym ✅
  • Cleaning the office ✅
  • Mowing the yard ✅
  • Mailing eBay sales ✅
  • Defeating Ryan Yorty by 33 points ✅

That’s what I call a productive day. 😎

What stands out to me is that Ephesians 4:1 doesn’t say:

“Win worthy of your calling.”

It says:

“Walk worthy of your calling.”

Fantasy football victories are fun. (Very fun when you’re undefeated. 😉)

But the real win is consistency.

Anybody can have a great Sunday. Anybody can have a great fantasy football week.

But getting up, reading the Word, serving your mom, handling responsibilities, improving your health, and taking care of business day after day…

That’s the kind of victory that lasts.

So today’s revised battle cry is:

Beat Ryan Yorty.

Mail the packages.

Mow the yard.

Lift the weights.

Clean the office.

Walk worthy.

#KeepWinning

And if ERFFL has learned anything this season, it’s this:

Never underestimate the guy who starts his day with Scripture before sunrise. 📖🏆💪

THANKS BE TO GOD.
